about

I Wrote A Disco Tune (20 Years Too Late) is my way of paying homage to that great and unfortunately short lived musical genre: Disco.

The song was written in 1998 (20 years too late) while I was studying music at the University of Maine at Augusta. I was asked to write a jazz standard using Major Diatonic 7th Chords. The song originally had a swing feel but it was quickly reworked to Disco and a bit of reggae (just because.)

I tested the waters by playing the song live with a group I was in, The Perpetual Motion Machine. It quickly became a favorite among our fans and I knew that maybe, just maybe, disco was not entirely dead.

Before I recorded it, I studied disco music of the mid to late 70's from artist like Donna Summers, the Bee Gees, and Gloria Gaynor. I found the disco music cliches and tried to incorporate them in my song to make it as authentic as possible.

I hope you enjoy.
